The month of September brought my goal of 2 triathlons per year—one week after the other.
The first was in Lake Worth, FL(9/7/08) I was #109 TROPICAL TRIATHLON (1/4 mile swim, 11 mile bike 3.1 mile run)http://www.bbactionphoto.com. Hurricane Ike was out in the Ocean, so the waves were crashing, but once you got past the crashes, the water was pretty flat, so I felt good in the swim, and even better on the bike because I wasn’t doggy paddling like I had in past years drinking the water as it hit me in the face. Starting in August I went to the swim team every MWF from 6-7am. I can’t begin to tell how much that helped–to actually keep your head in the water and breath at my sides–I didn’t get tired at all. For some reason, I couldn’t get into the rhythm on my run though, so that was pretty slow until 2 1/2 miles–then I didn’t have much farther to go. Total Time 1 hour 27 minutes.
The 2nd was on Singer Island, FL (9/14/08) I was #112 (1/4 mile swim, 10mile bike, 3 mile run). Hurricane Ike had made landfall in Texas, but the ocean was still crazy choppy—worse than the week before. I still made good time (for me), but I drank a little more water than the week previous. The bike was fine, but I could’ve went faster I think. Luckily I felt much better on the run & could tell instantly I had more energy running than I had the week before. So the race felt fine, but afterwards, I was a sick pup until about 3:30–just glad I didn’t have another tri yesterday—we’ll do it again next year!
Results and pictures from Singer Island: Total time 1 hour 16minutes(this one was 1 mile less on the bike and only a 3 mile run vs. 3.1mile as was the week before).
